The grapheme H spells /h/
The phoneme /h/ is an unvoiced sound. When modeling, be careful not to add a schwa or short /ŭ/ at the end (i.e., /h/, not /huh/). From this point on, consonant clusters will be included in the blending drill. These clusters are on one tile, but represent individual sounds.

Warm Up Our Ears
Say the sounds; students blend them into a word. Then say a word; students break it apart.

Review H: Start at the top. Straight line down. Hop back to the top and over (to the right). Straight line down. Hop to the middle of the first straight line and make a straight line across.

Introduce h: Start at the top. Straight line down to the bottom. Straight back up to the middle. Curve forward and down to the bottom.
How our mouth moves
To make the /h/ sound, make a puff of air at the back of your mouth like this..(model). Be sure your voice is off. You can pretend to pant like a dog to make this sound, but keep your tongue in your mouth. Watch me /h/. You try /h/.
