The grapheme M spells /m/
When M appears after A, the pronunciation of A changes and the sound becomes nasalized, as the air is released through the nose. The nasalized A (e.g., am) is addressed in Lesson 11.

Introduce m: Begin at the middle line. Start at the top. Straight line down to the bottom. Go straight back up. Curve forward and down to the bottom. Go back up. Curve forward and down to the bottom again.
How our mouth moves
To make the /m/ sound put your lips together and hum like this…(model). Be sure your voice is on. Your mouth should not open at all during this sound. All of the air should come out of your nose. The /m/ sound is a continuous sound that can be stretched out (make a continuous hand motion). Watch me /mmm/. You try /mmm/.
