-ly

The suffix -LY means like or manner of

When a word ends with Y, the Y changes to I before adding the suffix -LY. This change is taught in Lesson 108. Grammar concepts such as parts of speech and sentence structure should be addressed separately when appropriate.

Warm Up Our Ears

Say the sounds; students blend them into a word. Then say a word; students break it apart.

For example, in the sentence "Tom drives slowly," slowly tells us how Tom drives. In the sentence "Shane screams loudly," loudly describes how Shane screams.
